Our Story
It all started some 22 years ago when Founder and Director of Events Veronica Jones was growing up where she worked in the family business to manage a food stall at most of the carnivals and festivals or “all dayers” as they were known back in the 80s and 90s.
“The most memorable event for me was working at the Notting Hill Carnival year after year. It was a lot of fun back then, going on way into the night, and it didn’t have all the restrictions in place now. This left us free to explore the streets of Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park. It was great”.
After doing this for many years Veronica developed a passion for events and consequently after finishing school, she worked for a leading cosmetic company where she worked with teams to deliver exhibitions, promotional and training events. Needing more of a challenge she started freelancing and landed contracts to deliver a range of events for the likes of Revlon, MTV, various local authorities, Wilmot Dixon and the NSPCC. Whilst freelancing, Veronica successfully studied for a HNC in Marketing and Business Management, BA (hons) in Event Management and Marketing and a Diploma in Management.
In 2003 it was apparent that she was unable to manage all the commissions alone, so decided to set up Vjem Events and recruit skilled staff to support her in the delivery of the growing projects.
The company has grown steadily over the years, having won commissions from leading organisations like The Princes Trust, BDO Stoy Hayward LLP, London Youth Support Trust, Ernst and Young LLP, Action for Children and a number of public and third sector organisations. It has delivered both large and small projects throughout the UK.
Vjem Event went on to win the Creative Growth Business category at the Haringey City Growth Business Awards 2008 and was a finalists in both the Growth Business and Community Involvement categories at the Archant Business Awards 2008. Veronica is also a mentor to young entrepreneurs and speaks at various business events.
